  1. “That from which, as a constituent, something is generated; for example, the bronze is a cause of the statue…”
  2. “the form or the pattern, this being the formula of the essence…”
  3. “that from which change or coming to rest first begins…”
  4. “the end, and this is the final cause [that for the sake of which]….”
